The Joaquin Bustoz Memorial Mathematics Scholarship is named in honor of Professor Joaquin Bustoz, who taught mathematics at Arizona State University from 1975-2003. The scholarship is offered in partnership with the Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors program, a summer program that promotes mathematics to underrepresented high school students. Joaquin Bustoz? defining characteristic was his passion not only for the field of mathematics but also for helping talented minority students achieve their full potential. Your contribution to this scholarship makes it possible for first-generation undergraduate students to explore and excel in the field of mathematics.
Being chosen to receive this scholarship honestly means the world to me. Being able to pay for my education is something I don't take lightly. I have worked so hard and shed so many tears to go to university and succeed to the best of my ability, while my parents have worked really hard to support me and my three younger siblings so that we can focus on school. I want my own and my parent's sacrifices to have a purpose and not go to waste."
