Support cancer research and save lives
Because of you, researchers in ASU’s Biodesign Institute will be able to make major advancements in the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer.
Uniquely designed to hit cancer from every angle, the Biodesign Institute brings together scientists from diverse disciplines to collaborate in research centers. Out-of-box thinking and unique partnerships have led to many breakthroughs against a formidable foe.
According to the American Cancer Society, there will be about 1.8 million new cancer cases in 2019. But Biodesign researchers are relentless. To outmaneuver cancer, the institute’s multidisciplinary team of scientists conduct research into 14 types of cancer.
A few example of their multifaceted work:
- They are working to establish alternative therapies that sidestep the harmful effects of chemotherapy and radiation while improving the success rate for difficult-to-treat cancers.
- They are uncovering the reason why some aggressive cancers, like pancreatic cancer, remain stubbornly resistant to available therapies. (Only 4 percent of patients with pancreatic cancer are alive five years after their diagnosis.)
- They are pinpointing tumor-specific factors in blood that elicit a protective immune response in the body, which may one day lead to an effective vaccine against cancer.
Your generosity to ASU’s Biodesign Cancer Research Fund will support the exhaustive and varied medical research we need to beat this deadly disease.
